Olaf Wieghorst
My Favorite Olaf Wieghorst Painting of the Week

 Navajo Madonna
water color

An Indian woman on a donkey, profiled right, holds a cradled infant. She is dressed in a pleated skirt and long sleeved blouse. Her hair is styled in a traditional Navajo manner. She wears large earrings and her moccasined feet rest in wooden stirrups.

Olaf later painted an oil of the "Navajo Madonna" which sold for $1,000,000, setting a record.

From a 1960s painting titled: "Navajo Madonna"
Water color / ink, 10 x 8 inches

Olaf Wieghorst painted around 1600 oil paintings, 3-5000 watercolors, and who knows how many drawing and sketches during his life time. I love them all. Each painting tells a story to me. I have hundreds of personal favorites and will be sharing a new one each week. If you have any comments on a painting or have a special favorite you would like me to post, please email me.
