Tex
and Patches (Cowboy on Paint)
A solemn faced cowboy dressed in a white shirt with a leather
vest and leather chaps has paused on his Pinto pony profiled
right. The cowboy is wearing a gray Stetson and a blue neckerchief.
He also has a Colt six-shooter holstered around his waste. His
attention is focused on something behind him. The Pinto is standing
on a rocky rise amidst some desert scrub brush. Distance mountains
and a cloudy blue sky complete the composition.
The inspiration for this painting was a 1925 Colt's Patent
Fire Arms Mfg. Co. poster titled "The Arm of Law and Order."
This was made from the painting "Tex and Patches"
by artist Frank Schoonover.
From a 1928 painting titled: "Cowboy on Paint"
Oil on canvas, 20 x 14 inches
