The Paintings of El Dorado

Shafter Stage

This scene is similar to other versions of racing teams of horses pulling a stage toward the viewer in competition with time. The trail is flanked at the left by rocky cliffs and a golden leafed tree. The stage raises a cloud of dust as it rolls over a desert floor.

This painting was owned by Leonard K. Firestone, Rancho Mirage, CA. It was given to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center, Oklahoma City, OK (1993).

No prints of this painting were published. The image was reversed left to right in the movie.
